Orca Slicing Checklist — LUME v1
> Stale slicing checklist, 2026-04-30: this references the old `exports/` part set and Jetson-era internals. Use `../PRINT_APPROVAL_QUEUE_CURRENT.md` and rebuild from `../exports/approval-v2/` or `../exports/approval-symmetric/`.
Per-part GUI walkthrough for OrcaSlicer (macOS). All parts already verified:
all 10 `internal_*.stl`, 4 shell halves, 4 coupons present in
`hardware/cad/exports/`.
Common settings (apply once, save as `LUME-v1` profile)
- Printer: Elegoo Neptune 4 Max (420×420×480, X cap 420 mm)
- Filament: ASA grey, 240 °C nozzle, 100 °C bed
- Profile: `0.20mm Standard`
- Walls: 4
- Top/Bottom: 5 / 5
- Infill: 25
- Supports: see per-part column
- Brim: 5 mm on shells (warp control)
- Cooling: ASA defaults (low; layer time ≥ 12 s)
- Z-seam: aligned, rear-facing for shells
- First-layer flow: 100
Save 3MFs into `hardware/cad/print/`. Filename = box ID below.
Order — runs sequentially. Coupons first; do not start shells until splice fit verifies.
| # | 3MF | Parts | Layout hint | Supports | ETA | Gate |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | `01_coupons.3mf` | coupon_grooves, coupon_splice_pegs, coupon_splice_pockets, coupon_tongues | 2×2 grid centered | none | 2 h | hand-fit pegs into pockets after print |
| 2 | `02_internals_batch.3mf` | all 9 `internal_*.stl` (jetson_sled retired 2026-04-26 — K11 lives in pod) | auto-arrange; verify no clip | tree, only on overhangs >55° | 5 h | check internal_femto_mount snap-fit; pod_compute_sled prints separately on plate 07 |
| 3 | `03_shell_front_L.3mf` | shell_front_L.stl | flat, femto bay up, X≤330 | tree on; paint-supports under wordmark recess | 10 h | verify splice tongues fit coupon_grooves |
| 4 | `04_shell_front_R.3mf` | shell_front_R.stl | flat, cam_right facing up | tree on | 5 h | dry-fit against L half |
| 5 | `05_shell_rear_L.3mf` | shell_rear_L.stl | VESA face down, ports up | tree on; bridges over grille | 10 h | check ESD pad clearance |
| 6 | `06_shell_rear_R.3mf` | shell_rear_R.stl | flat, port cluster up | tree on | 5 h | dry-fit; full assembly check |
Per-part Orca steps
For each box above:
1. File → Import → STL (multi-select if batched).
2. Check bed footprint: every part must fit X≤420, Y≤420.
3. Right-click → Orient → Auto-orient (then manually flip if Z-seam lands on a visible face).
4. Apply `LUME-v1` profile + `ASA 0.20mm Standard`.
5. Add supports per column above (Tree, paint-mode for shell wordmark/grille only).
6. Slice → preview → confirm:
- First-layer area ≥ 80
- No mid-air bridges >25 mm without support
- Layer time stays ≥ 12 s (cooling for ASA)
7. File → Export 3MF → save into `hardware/cad/print/` with the table filename.
8. Tick the corresponding row in `print-queue.md`.
Coupon gate (CRITICAL, do not skip)
After box 1 prints:
- Hand-fit `coupon_splice_pegs` into `coupon_splice_pockets`.
- If loose: bump XY scale +0.2
- If tight: bump XY scale −0.2
- If clean snap (slight friction, no rocking): proceed at 100
Coupon failure ⇒ re-export from FreeCAD with adjusted clearance (currently 0.20 mm), do not just rescale shells.
Cancellation budget
- Box 1 + 2 (~8 h) before any shell starts. Shells bind 30 h of printer time — coupon gate must pass first.
- If anything looks wrong on layer 5 of a shell: cancel, do not babysit.
